I think I was really surprised about the fact that I actually learned more in high school than I did in my general ed classes first semester. I was surprised that the teachers are really funny and goofy and that they all want us to call them by their first names. That would have never happened at WCA... imagine.... "oh by the way Ardyss what was that verse again?", "hey Wanda what is the element Ag?", "Sonya who is the author of Great Expectations?", "Mary Anne do we go out before or after the curtain closes?", "you mean we have to work through lunch Barbara?" hahaha how funny would that be?
I most definitely think that lighting class is something that I have come to really enjoy this semester, and last year this time I was always so "afraid" of using lighting because it always caused more problems than I could stand.
The thing that has surprised me the most about starting college though is... the fact that I am actually IN college. Last year this time I was absolutely NOT going to college for any reason whatsoever, look at me now sometimes I am still in shock. The more I think about it the more I realize that somehow God really did have a part in all of this that has transpired. I went from adamantly despising the word college to gradually saying "but what if I went to school to learn about photography?". One day while on the phone with and old church friend my mom heard about this small school in Asheboro called RCC, and then about a week later my dad also heard about this little school that was ranked #1 on the East coast in their photography program, it was called RCC. We looked into it and thought that it was pretty cool, but pretty soon I didn't think it was so rad. I had gotten an email from one of my aunts about the Art Institute in Charlotte and I was interested in their flashy adds and really good marketing strategies, I sent and email and got a phone call from a lady named Denise that made this place sound like something better than a Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire combo concert. We started in on the application process and then planed a visit to tour and see the dorms. The day came to go to Charlotte and... what a bust. There was not one stinkin part of that place that screamed Ktville, and then to top it all off we found out that there was no way on the green earth that we could afford it. Totally disappointed and bummed, we hit the dusty trail back to Raleigh. "Now what?... well i guess we can look into that place in Asheboro." That's what we did, we got on the internet and researched it more in depth. The more we looked around at other places the more it looked like the little school in Asheboro was going to be the place where I would get exactly what I wanted, so I applied and got in. We found out that there was going to be a photography open house after I got back from my senior class trip to NYC, we talked about it and decided we would make the trip to look around. During all of this Mom and Dad were talking to Amy Jones and asking her to keep her ears open for anywhere in Asheboro that I could maybe stay. Jackpot! Amy had been keeping in touch with some friends that had previously lived in Raleigh and had moved to Asheboro, she called them up and asked if they might know of anywhere or anyone that I could live with while I was in school there. They answered right away that they definitely knew of someone and that they were just the sweetest people who had a little house in their backyard that they would more than likely love to rent to someone. Amy called mom and told her all about the phone call and how there were these sweet people that had this little house. Time went by and I went to NYC with my class and mom and dad took a trip to Asheboro without me. I was talking with mom one night and she says "oh by the way we are coming back from Asheboro right now, we have been looking for a place for you to stay." Surprisingly there were only one or two places that my mom even approved of. I came back from NY and we left a few days later to go to Asheboro for the open house at RCC and to look at the places mom and dad had previously approved for me to live. Mom made a call to the lady that Amy had told us about, and we planed to meet her early that morning before the open house to see the little house in the backyard. The ride seemed like it took forever, but finally mom cries from the front seat "there it is on the left!" We pulled in the driveway and stopped, from around the corner of the house comes the cutest little lady in shorts, a black and white striped shirt, and hedge clippers in her hand. For some odd reason I was terrified to get out of the car. Mom and Dad quickly got out of the car and introduced themselves as I slowly climbed out of the back seat of the car. Here I was with black jeans, black see through shirt on, black fingernail polish on my fingers, and a fo-hawk hair cut and she walked right over and shook my hand and introduced herself. We all walked down the driveway to this tiny little white house/building and she started to open the door. We walked in and all she kept saying was "I know it looks bad, but it wont look like this if you decide to live here. We'll fix it all up for you!" Mom kept glancing at me to see my expression im sure as we looked around at the bland walls with the wood paneling and the old mouse haven couch sitting in the middle of the floor. We chatted for a while and then thanked her and said we would think about it and get back with her really soon since it wasn't too long till I would have to move. We left there and headed down the road to go to the open house at the school and to look at some of the other places that I could potentially live. The school was very nice and super impressive with all the facilities, and one of the teachers named Irene Townsend even came over and talked to us for a minute. We left there and headed to see the other apartments, when we drove into the parking lot of the first place we realized that the office was closed and that we probably couldn't get in to see the insides. As we drove around looking at all the buildings, mom comments about the pool, the workout room and the tennis courts, and I looked up at her and said "thats ok Mom I want to live at that little house" My mom and dad were shocked and just stopped the car in disbelief.
The rest is history I suppose, I now live in the little house known as TLH, and have the best Asheboro friend I could possibly ever ask for.
Kind of long kind of sentimental in a way but does that answer your question? LoL
Ciao my loves, kt : )
